Congressman Lamborn Leads the Fight for Our Veterans

Congressman Doug Lamborn has been named as one of eight House Republicans to serve on an exclusive House and Senate committee. Starting this week, this joint conference committee will begin addressing the differences between House and Senate VA healthcare reform legislation.

House Leadership hand-picked Congressman Lamborn for this Conference Committee due to his leadership role as the second-ranking Republican on the House Veterans Affairs Committee, his experience in crafting legislation, and his tireless advocacy for our brave veterans.

National Veterans Cemetery

  • Congressman Lamborn introduced legislation calling for a new Southern Colorado National Veterans Cemetery on his first full day in Congress
  • The Congressman brought a Field Hearing  of the House Veterans Affairs Committee to our region so that the leadership of the VA could see for themselves the need for a new Southern Colorado Veterans Cemetery
  • Land has now been purchased just south and east of the Colorado Springs Airport and studies are underway with construction expected to begin in 2016

New VA Clinic

  • Congressman Lamborn has been an enthusiastic supporter of the new, state-of-the-art veterans clinic opening off I-25 and Fillmore
  • Congressman Lamborn has passed legislation ensuring that the clinic will be named after local World War II hero and Medal of Honor winner Floyd K. Lindstrom
  • The clinic will be opening for first patients in August 2014 with expanded capacity and care options for veterans
  • Congressman Lamborn inserted language calling for a study in the latest Defense Authorization Act calling of a new Joint DOD-VA Medical Clinic in northern El Paso County. This important legislative action will help us get ahead of the curve of increasing veterans healthcare needs

TRICARE-United Health Care

  • Last year, following initial hiccups in the transition from UHC to TRICARE, Congressman Lamborn pressured UHC leadership to iron out their issues via his connections in the Defense Department and the House Armed Services Committee
  • Following the Congressman's intervention, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health came to Colorado Springs to personally intervene
  • Congressman Lamborn's leadership was directly responsible for dramatic improvements in the TRICARE-UHC process

Responding to VA Scandals

  • Congressman Lamborn used his senior leadership position on the House Veterans Affairs Committee to push for expanded private sector, “fee-basis” care. This passed the House recently as part of H.R. 4810, the Veterans Access to Care Act
  • Congressman Lamborn called for the resignation of former VA Secretary Eric Shinseki and will continue to push for a removal of bonuses and changing the culture of corruption at the VA
  • Congressman Lamborn believes that veterans deserve to be treated with respect, have the best possible care, and not be treated like they are part of an assembly line
