About Congressman Doug Lamborn

Congressman Doug Lamborn is serving in his first term of Congress after being elected to serve the Colorado 5th Congressional District in the 2006 election.  During this first term Congressman Lamborn is proving himself a strong voice for the conservative values of his district.

Congressman Lamborn currently serves on House Armed Services Committee, where he is on the Air and Land Forces Subcommittee and the Readiness Subcommittee.  In addition, Congressman Lamborn sits on the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he is the Ranking Member of the Disabilities Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee, an unusual honor for a new Member.  Thirdly, Congressman Lamborn sits on the House Committee on Natural Resources, where he serves on two Subcommittees, the Subcommittee on Water and Power, and the Subcommittee on National Parks Forests and Public Lands.

Throughout his political career, Lamborn has been an out spoken leader for smaller government, lower taxes, pro-family issues and a strong military.  It is only natural that he be involve in such conservative caucus’ as the Republican Study Committee, and the Constitution Caucus.  In addition Congressman Lamborn is co-founder of the Missile Defense Caucus.

Before being elected to Congress, Lamborn served in the Colorado House from 1995 to 1998, where he was elected Republican whip in 1997.  In 1998 Doug was elected to the Colorado State Senate where he served for nine years.  During his tenure Lamborn was elected President Pro-tem by his colleagues.  He also served as Chairman of the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee and was Republican Caucus Chairman.  Lamborn also served on the Appropriations Committee in both the House and Senate for a total of nine years.  Congressman Lamborn feels his greatest achievement while serving in Denver was to sponsor and pass the largest tax cut in the history of Colorado.

Congressman Lamborn received his bachelor’s degree in journalism and his law degree from the University of Kansas where he was a National Merit Scholar.

Colorado has been home for over 21 years.  Congressman Lamborn is married to Jeanie, his wife of 32 years.  Together they have raised five children, including one married daughter and four sons.
